I do Press Releases when a company or organization has something fairly interesting to share.
If it's a big deal or urgent, I send emails.
On January 11, 2012 I found out the Parrot Outreach Organization - a.k.a. Pam Hill and Paul Perez - was nearly full from people surrendering their parrots. I found this alarming.
I adopted my Cockatoo from them in August, he's a sweetheart. Parrots are smart and sensitive. When the people they've loved all their lives give them up, they are confused and depressed.
Sometimes they die of sorrow.
I asked Pam if her organization had ever been covered by the press. She said only newspaper mention once in a while.
I volunteered to help.
The next morning I sent out emails to the four biggest TV stations in Fort Myers.
I got a call around 3 p.m. - and they had a crew out to Pam in Punta Gorda before dark! She was on the news (and in the paper) within 12 hours, it was amazing.

They changed the message, but still, it was POS' first big news break. We got their name out there, they will come to be known.
